I visited Costa Rica when I was a high school student on a miniature study abroad trip. I fell in love with the tropical landscape and laid-back culture. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out it is a relatively inexpensive country to visit for American travelers. It is generally also very accommodating of non-Spanish speakers as their main industry is tourism. Costa Rica has just two true seasons: rainy and dry. For first-time travelers, I recommend visiting during the dry season. You can definitely still enjoy sunny days on the beach during the rainy season but expect downpours in the afternoons. The dry season spans from January to April and the rainy season includes May through December.
